HISTORY
Jasper Müller Associates was founded as a one man professional practice in October of 1988. At this point in time increasing pressure was put on mines and industry by the regulating authorities Water Affairs and Mineral and Energy Affairs, in terms of general environmental management and then also specifically ground water quality management. Jasper Müller Associates opened an office in Delmas in Mpumalanga in November of 1988, and started to focus on servicing the coal mining, chemical and power generation industries.
Despite the uncertain political and economic times of the early 1990's the firm continued to grow steadily and by 1997 it was necessary to re-structure the firm. The firm became a closed corporation in the same year, and moved to bigger offices during October of 1998. By now environmental legislation was steadily providing projects related to the compilation of EMPR's, EIA's, Water Permit Applications and Environmental Monitoring Systems. The promulgation of the NEMA in 1998, and the advent of the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, introduced the concept of integrated environmental management.
Jasper Müller Associates CC immediately started to forge associations with other specialist environmental and engineering firms in order to provide turnkey Environmental Solutions to its clients. The JMA Logo was introduced to brand the firm, and a period of exponential growth saw the firm develop into a multidisciplinary environmental consultancy.
Soon afterwards, however, the real challenges for the new millenium became apparent. JMA CC went on a legal compliance drive and had to deal with issues ranging from Labour, to Safety and Health, to Employment Equity and Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment. The firm decided to tackle Employment Equity and BEE issues with tenacity and immediately started on a learnership program to train and develop black scientists for employment at JMA. Full scholarships were awarded to black students for post graduate studies in geohydrology.
In 2006, the learnership program came to fruition and the firm was changed from a closed corporation to a private company to entrench its BEE status. Me Dolly Mthethwa became a full director of JMA Consulting (Pty) Ltd with a 10% equity ownership in the company.
